Monsoon 2025 Waterlogging at Ajmer station in Rajasthan:17 children rescued in Jhansi, UP; Ganga in spate in Varanasi; floods in several villages of MP

Two cousins drowned in a drain in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. Several rivers are in spate due to heavy rainfall in Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, Tonk, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Banswara. Water has entered the Ajmer railway station. In Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan and Lohardaga districts, two people died due to lightning strikes.

Monsoon rains have severely affected seven districts in Madhya Pradesh—Rewa, Satna, Maihar, Shivpuri, Khajuraho, and Chhatarpur. Hundreds of people have been rescued. In Chhatarpur, a pickup vehicle was swept away in the Dhasan River. Two people escaped by breaking the window of the vehicle, while one person died on the spot.

Most districts in Uttar Pradesh are witnessing heavy rainfall. In Lalitpur, 20 gates of the Matatila Dam and 17 gates of the Govind Sagar Dam have been opened. Due to continuous rain in Varanasi, the Ganga River is rising by 2 centimetres every hour. Several temples along the ghats are submerged.

In Varanasi, the Manikarnika Ghat is completely underwater, forcing cremations to be performed on rooftops. In the last 24 hours, 14 people have died in the state due to rain and lightning.

Floods in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur: 3 dead as water from reservoir inundates several areas

Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal – Continuous rainfall and discharge from reservoirs have led to severe flooding in large parts of Ghatal, Chandrakona, and Daspur.

According to Ghatal SDO Suman Biswas, three people have lost their lives due to the flooding. “The water level is not dangerously high, but unfortunately, three deaths have occurred. One child died while going to the bathroom with her mother. Today, we recovered two more bodies,” he said.
